Diamonds are a girl's best friend

So, David posted over the weekend about how diamonds are
evil. And i felt the need to comment. First of all, who cares if it wasnt "tradition" to buy a diamond enagement ring 80 years ago. That's the beauty of marketing! We should all be thanking the marketing and PR department at Tiffany's for that. Secondly, something is only as valuable as consumers make it. So saying that because of the abundance of diamonds in the world makes them not worth the amount of money they sell for, is kind of irrelevant, because if the market will support the price, and the demand is high, who cares? i don't mind spending thousands of dollars on something (if i had that kind of money), if I (and others around me) feel that that something is worth the value paid. By the way, GOOD diamonds are cut and polished by craftsmen and professionals, and that artistry is worth the money. Not all diamonds are created equally. And there is ALWAYS the diamond district (47th street, midtown New York) for a deal; or the ever popular "family ring" which carries a good price ($0)
and emotional family significance. For the majority of nice men out there who think that they can get away with NOT buying a diamond engagement ring for their nice girlfriends, good luck to them. They'll be single forever. Now... tell me this isnt a beautiful ring.
This is only vaguely related, but Rasputina's "Diamond Mind" is easily one of the greatest songs every written. If you haven't heard it, you're missing out. Check out the lyrics here (but you really have to listen to the song for the full effect!):

Also, I think it's cool that someone linked to my blog! However, a link to the econ-atrocity site would be more useful. So check it out! You can still love diamonds (they are beautiful), but know the facts too. The truth will set you free. :)
