earth day and pesach cleaning

Did you know that today is earth day? i used to know things like that. I thought it was a disgrace when i came to work right out of college and found that my company didnt recycle the REEMS of white paper we produce and throw away every day. so happy earth day everybody!

Just so you all know, i spent last night cleaning my kitchen to within an inch of it's life in preparation for this miserable holiday called... Pesach! Why did we have to leave Egypt in such a damn hurry!? So i came home from work last night and got to scrubbing counter tops, cleaning out my fridge and stashing my chametzdik stuff all over the kitchen and out of sight. At 9:45 i called it quits (while my oven was still self cleaning) and went over to Janet's where she was still cleaning her kitchen. My parents were still working on there's while Laura had finished her's before me and gone to bed. Lucky her! So at 10:45 i left Janet's and went home were i decided it would be a good time to color my hair. What was i thinking? so at 12:15 i finally got into bed. I'm tired... but my kitchen is beautiful!

On a funny note... I saw this hyseterical animation about pesach and more specifically "matzah". check it out. you'll laugh. :) anyway...

Chag Sameach? (as J said to me today "i would wish you a chag sameach, but for this holiday..." not so much a sameach chag.)

27 years... and counting

Today is my 27th birthday and i wont bother to bore you with the reasons why this number freaks me out. but it does. is 27 my 30? but even as much as 27 freaks me out, i'm still happy to celebrate my birthday. get all the attention i can because... this is the one day a year when i can feel that i deserve attention. you know? it's MY day! and i think i need a drink! maybe it's time for some more rum. ;)

lot's of good things happen to people when they're 27. my mom had me, my grandmother had my mom, a friend of mine met her husband, and i think my cousin got married when she was 27. so maybe it'll be a good year for me too. here's to wishin'...

it only happens once a year, but here we are april 11, 2005. i am officially in my "late" 20's. YIKES! But, 26 was pretty good. i made new friends, sang a solo in a huge performance in front of hundreds of people, bought a condo and moved... i bought a bike (does that count as big?) oh, and i went to the bahamas.

so here's to another year. :)

rum in the afternoon

and morning, and evening and well... anytime. that's what nassau is like. I have to tell you a little story then i'll be off. more to come...

so Jennie and i took a walking tour on friday (our first day in the nassau). after the tour we walked around downtown and went shopping in the straw market, in and out of the shops along bay street (the main drag) and had lunch at Hard Rock Café. (Sadly i must report that my free hurricane glass did not make it safely home to the states). We decided during the day that we should buy a bottle of rum to drink in the room (or as it turned out, on the beach, on the patio, in a cab and wherever else we wanted). So we happened into a duty free liquor store and declared to the man there "we need rum". so he points to one whole side of the store. clarification was needed... "we need rum we can't get in the states." so he points us to a smaller section of the wall. lots to choose from. banana rum, mango rum, coconut rum, pineapple rum... you pick. we asked him what we should have and he replied by pouring us shots of mango rum. yummmy! then we're discussing our options for mixing with this rum and he said "hang on." pours us more shots and then adds orange pineapple juice to the mix. even yummier! so off we go with our mango rum in hand (which we drank in it's entirety in a day and a half) off in search of sippy cups (with lids and straws) to drink on the beach with. little did we know, these werent so easily found and we ended up buying plastic cups (matching) that say "bahama's" no lids, but they worked quite well.

we bought some pineapple rum a few days later... good stuff.

one more story and them i'm off...
our first night on the island, by the time jennie arrived there wasnt much to be done but go out to dinner and get some drinks to start off our trip on the right foot. so we went to this restaurant next to the hotel Café Johnny Canoe. little did we know that was going to be our only true source of bahamian culture for the weekend. One night we decided to go to this "Native Review" show. what a mess!! we walked in and found only 2 other tables of people. a few more showed up right before the show but it was... awful!! at least it's an adventure we bonded over. anyway... little did we know that Johnny Canoe was going to be our cultural experience. we should have skipped the review and gone to Señor Frog's to party with the college kids. by the way, they have this mardi gras festival type thing called Junkanoo every year which comes from one of the settlers of the Bahama's John Canoe. haha. who knew!

easy money

i must say... freelancing can be time consuming, but it is also pretty damn easy money! and what i thought was going to be a job with a begining and an end has turned into an ongoing client who now calls me when she's in a pinch. Luckily i was havent a quiet evening last night when she called me in a panic. So a couple of hours last night and a couple today and i made an easy $160. it's amazing!

it's like when i used to babysit on saturday nights. easy money!! and fun too. and more than anything else, it's sooooo rewarding when a client calls you to tell you she just looked at what you sent her and she "loves" it.
