and morning, and evening and well... anytime. that's what nassau is like. I have to tell you a little story then i'll be off. more to come...
so Jennie and i took a walking tour on friday (our first day in the nassau). after the tour we walked around downtown and went shopping in the straw market, in and out of the shops along bay street (the main drag) and had lunch at Hard Rock Café. (Sadly i must report that my free hurricane glass did not make it safely home to the states). We decided during the day that we should buy a bottle of rum to drink in the room (or as it turned out, on the beach, on the patio, in a cab and wherever else we wanted). So we happened into a duty free liquor store and declared to the man there "we need rum". so he points to one whole side of the store. clarification was needed... "we need rum we can't get in the states." so he points us to a smaller section of the wall. lots to choose from. banana rum, mango rum, coconut rum, pineapple rum... you pick. we asked him what we should have and he replied by pouring us shots of mango rum. yummmy! then we're discussing our options for mixing with this rum and he said "hang on." pours us more shots and then adds orange pineapple juice to the mix. even yummier! so off we go with our mango rum in hand (which we drank in it's entirety in a day and a half) off in search of sippy cups (with lids and straws) to drink on the beach with. little did we know, these werent so easily found and we ended up buying plastic cups (matching) that say "bahama's" no lids, but they worked quite well.
we bought some pineapple rum a few days later... good stuff.

one more story and them i'm off...
our first night on the island, by the time jennie arrived there wasnt much to be done but go out to dinner and get some drinks to start off our trip on the right foot. so we went to this restaurant next to the hotel
Café Johnny Canoe. little did we know that was going to be our only true source of bahamian culture for the weekend. One night we decided to go to this "Native Review" show. what a mess!! we walked in and found only 2 other tables of people. a few more showed up right before the show but it was... awful!! at least it's an adventure we bonded over. anyway... little did we know that Johnny Canoe was going to be our cultural experience. we should have skipped the review and gone to Señor Frog's to party with the college kids. by the way, they have this mardi gras festival type thing called Junkanoo every year which comes from one of the settlers of the Bahama's John Canoe. haha. who knew!
