Rats

A tourist walks into a curio shop in San Francisco. Looking around at the exotica, he notices a very lifelike life-sized bronze statue of a rat. It has no price tag, but is so striking he decides he must have it. He takes it to the owner: "How much for the bronze rat?" "$12 for the rat, $100 for the story," says the owner. The tourist gives the man $12. "I'll just take the rat, you can keep the story." As he walks down the street carrying his bronze rat, he notices that a few real rats have crawled out of the alleys and sewers and begun following him down the street. This is disconcerting, and he begins walking faster. But within a couple of blocks, the herd of rats behind him has grown to hundreds, and they begin squealing. He begins to trot toward the Bay, looking around to see that the rats now number in the MILLIONS, and are squealing and coming toward him faster and faster. Concerned, even scared, he runs to the edge of the Bay, and throws the bronze rat as far out into the water as he can. Amazingly, the millions of rats all jump into the Bay after it, and are all drowned. The man walks back to the curio shop. "Ah ha," says the owner, "you have come back for the story?" "No," says the man, "I came back to see if you have a bronze Republican."

the concert!

Tuesday night was the big choir/cantorial concert that we've been preparing for over the past 2 months and for which i have been working closely and tirelessly with Arik, designing the printed materials for. Everything from the invitations, response cards and envelopes, posters and program. The craziest man i know, even told me i was crazy. that's how crazy the whole thing was.

but the program went off beautifully and the two pieces i was most concerned about we NAILED! I couldnt have been happier! so here are the pictures of the concert experience. Sound check, dinner, concert and reception. It was a thrill and a joy, and i'm glad it's over!

a new look in the neighborhood

so... thanks to the lovely and talented Carrie and her curiousity for a new blog template, i have a new one too. I spent some time about a month ago trying to figure out how to alter my blog code beyond recognition and was... unsuccessful.

So today when Carrie told me she was surfing the web looking for a new template i thought, "maybe there's something out there for me!" and... there was!!!

well... there kind of was. there was something plain enough that i could screw with the code enough to get it to look the way I wanted it to look. I've made the type specs very similar to what i had... but the biggest thing is that i can make the header image anything i want! and now i'm nearly there... i think there might be an alteration or two to come in the next day or two, but generally i'm very happy. what do you all think???

the babies are here!

So my cousin Leslie gave birth to 2 beautiful babies on Thursday evening April 20th. Joshua Andrew Levin weighing in at 5lbs and his sister Audrey Amanda Levin weighing in at 5lbs 2oz. This past Friday was Joshua's bris and Audrey's simchat bat. It was the best reason in the world to take the morning away from the office. They are both very tiny and squishy and cute. They're older brother Nathaniel (he'll be 3 at the end of May) calls them "my babies", but cannot distinguish one from the other so if he sees one of them without the other he says "where's the other one?" I think this is just too cute for words. As an aside, Nathaniel was wearing the kippah i made him for chanukah a few years ago. yay!!!!

Below I'm giving you a teaser picture of Leslie and Jason with the twins. Click on the photo to get to the rest of the gallery. (All of the close-up shots are at the end)
